Responding to substantial European growth, Clir Renewables appoints Thomas Rohbogner, formerly of Siemens Gamesa and Nordex Group, to lead expansion into the German speaking wind and solar market

Vancouver, 20 April 2021 – Clir Renewables, the leading provider of performance assessment software for wind energy, today announces the appointment of Thomas Rohbogner as Head of Business Development for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where he will lead on the expansion of Clir’s optimization platform across wind and solar assets. Thomas joins Clir with more than 13 years’ experience in the European renewables sector, having held senior roles at Nordex Group, Siemens Gamesa, EGT AG, and Green City AG.

The German wind market is Europe’s largest, boasting 56 GW of installed capacity. However, with an ageing turbine fleet, recent drop in confidence around the onshore regulatory process, and a comparatively low volume of capacity scheduled for installation in 2021, owners and operators are increasingly seeking to secure and optimize both the performance and lifespan of their developed assets.

Clir is working with a number of leading asset owners across Europe to monitor and optimize the performance of their wind and solar projects. Recently surpassing 10 GW of assets, including several hundred MW in Germany, Clir’s artificial intelligence-driven platform carries out in-depth analysis of individual asset and portfolio data in the context of the environment and available resource. This contextual analysis enables Clir to identify the root causes of underperformance and pinpoint how to solve them, as well as provide project owners with the insights they need to develop smart operational and optimization strategies and inform decision-making during the M&A transaction process.

David O’Hare, Director of Business Development in Europe, Clir, commented: “Germany was an early mover in wind, and as projects age, comprehensive project data will be key to helping both asset owners and existing investors maximize their return and manage the technical and financial risks associated with their operational portfolios. By benchmarking the performance of individual assets against our full portfolio, our team can advise owners of where their asset performs compared to similar projects in similar environments, and model how different operational strategies will impact this performance.

“We look forward to working with Thomas, whose extensive experience across the wind industry throughout Europe will be invaluable to facilitating Clir’s expansion in this key market.”

Commenting on his appointment, Thomas added: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Clir team and being part of the firm’s journey to support the success of renewable energy – both as a high performing investment and generating technology - across the world. I look forward to escalating Clir’s position as a key player in the DACH market, supporting our customers in achieving the best possible financial and production performance from their renewable assets.”
